My job has recently requested I begin publishing their bi-monthly newsletter for them. Standard old magazine format type thing. Because of this, I have access to any application I would like to make it. Anything I get I will have to learn from scratch, so I'm trying to find out what will be the best investment for this purpose?

Anyone with experience have ideas?

TIA!

Adobe Indesign?

Not free but it is pretty much the industry standard now for DTP on PCs. The only other good alternative I can think of is MS Publisher or Quark, which you dont hear much about these days.

Wow... Indesign might be a bit OTT for what I need. You did mention Publisher. Is that worth learning? I think it comes bundled with Office 2003 Professional, which I already have access to. Another choice is Pagemaker. I'm not sure which would be easier to learn for a simple newsletter.

as you mentioned, I'd go for Microsoft Publisher 2003 for a simple newsletter,
I've just been using it to play with ideas for a web page redesign.

I found I still needed other tools to tweak pictures though
