Hi guys

I spent quite some time a while ago ripping all my DVDs using DVD Shrink onto hard drives which works well for me.

I had a thought tonight that it might be a good idea to change them from the standard DVD format (video_ts folder with .vob files) into a single file, something like .mkv so I could easily move them from the PC to a tablet for late night watching.

I haven't the foggiest what software I should use, and then I wouldn't know what settings to choose to get the best quality. Quality is key, I don't want to compress the quality of the video.

Anyone have any recommendations how to go about it?

Thanks very much. :)

Handbrake is supposed to be good or MakeMKV although personally havnt tried either for what you want

Thanks.

I've used Handbrake but some reason I get a mysterious error and it crashes frequently on this machine, even after reinstalling it.

I'll have a look at MakeMKV. :)

Anyone any other suggestions or settings to use so I don't lose quality?

Thanks.

Use Vobmerge to join respective VOB's into one large file
Go to Folder and search options/view/ then untick hide extensions for known file types
Re-name merged.VOB to merged.mpg
No re-encoding so no quality loss, assuming your tablet plays mpg format

I shelled out for CloneDVD Mobile. It transcodes the DVDs into an MP4 file which will play on all tablets. Why you want MKV I don't know?
