Just ordered a Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA, to replace the 50GB one currently in my rig, as finding space is becoming... difficult.

Whats the best option for transfering the data over?

Cheers.

Use the built in windows backup to image your current SSD to another hdd and make a boot recovery CD, then swap the SSD drives out and boot from the CD and use it to restore the image to your new ssd, simples :)

clone it !!!!

samsungs own data migration tool (free)

acronis true image (paid)

macrium reflect (free trial lets you clone your drive)

paragon migrate (paid)

might need to resize the partion to take up all the space on your new ssd if you use macrium reflect

Rather than start a new thread on the same subject I'll throw my question into the mix.

I've received my new 840 Pro this morning and cloned my old SSD across to it. A quick check with windows explorer suggests all the files and folders have indeed been cloned but when I remove the old SSD and attempt to boot from the Pro I get the default Windows error about selecting a proper boot device.

Do I have to go down the route of "fixmbr" by booting from the Windows CD or can it be fixed from within windows itself?

yeah try with windows disk and do a startup repair

your setting the new ssd as first boot device in the bios?

Yeah it's the first boot device. I've got no optical drive so it means creating a bootable USB drive and I wanted to try and avoid that if possible.

I'll try cloning it once more. The first time I used EaseUS but I'll try Samsung Data Migration and see if it makes a difference.

Cheers guys,

After thought, im going to do a clean install. Clear out cobwebs and all that.
