I scoured the web, found 2nd hand listings, links to shops clearance gear etc. There is a big list somewhere on hifiwigwam forum but don't no where exactly.
I in the end got my latest speakers off ebay and offered the seller to remove them if I paid 'X' price and picked them up at the weekend. For my amp I rung the supposed UK distributer as I couldn't find a 2nd hand one for months, but the distributer had become a dealer and had a spare 2nd hand one. Paid the man and he sent it to me.
2nd hand can get you some cracking kit for a great price, but it involves an awful lot of looking, ringing, and some waiting, well and some luck if you want the right kit. More entry level gear should be widely available though.
Try hifiwigwam and pinkfishmedia forums for some good classifieds, Audiogon I think is mainly for the USA. Try exdem.com and gumtree too.
Lots of decent ex-demo kit can be had from dealers. pinkfishmedia.net has a pretty good second hand bit for hi-fi. If its AV stuff you want the AVforums is the place to look.
I'm really looking for a well matched Home Theatre setup - Any other options other than AVforums? The other sites were good but i only really have around £700 (tops) to spend on an amp and 5 speakers I hope that i can get a decent KEF 5.1 setup and a demon amp for that (or am i dreaming?)
thing about ebay is you some times get a few nutters on bidding way to much. i put my speakers on not long ago got way more than the price i paid for them when i purchased the speakers few months before. im not complaining but its not always the best source for cheap gear
I have been after a new pre/power amp for a while and haven't seen anything not go for silly money on ebay. Would rather by exdemo/second hand stuff from a hifi dealer. I'm sure there is the odd bargain on ebay but on the whole stuff goes for more than its worth on there.
Agreed. I'm sure there are bargins but when it comes to hi-fi i know very little about the second hand market. Hopefully the listings on the AVForums MM will be more realistic in terms of price.
I have also been thinking about getting a home thretre in a box setup - like this one:
It looks pretty good and has won a couple of awards.
The other option (ofcause) is to go second hand separates. I have done this once and in my experience it ends up costing you allot more that you think (depending on time scales etc).
NB: My living room is only 5 metres by 5 metres so i assume the sensitivity shouldn't be a problem.
