Best Speakers for £30?

Hello everyone,

I have a really old pair of Creative speakers which have served me well but are just looking and sounding very tired these days. Not to mention the sub that came with them as well!

I am looking for some decent speakers that are relatively small in size. I mainly use them for Flightsim, Youtube, iTunes, and occasional gaming.

Many thanks,

Alex.

If you'd prefer stereo, then either Logitech Z200 or Creative T10 are probably the best choices for £30. If you'd prefer 2.1, then spend the extra £7 and get these.

If you would prefer 2.1, I wouldn't look at Creative and Logitech's 2.1 offerings, just because they are more well known brands. Microlab, although relatively unknown to most people, make good speakers.

The creative gigaworks are pretty decent, I use them for basic things like youtube videos or some games like rocket league. But really for proper immersive sound you want to use headphones or a proper hifi system.

You would get more immersive and better quality sound from some headphones, for example logitech UE6000 can be had for about 30-40 on ebay, and will be much better than any small speakers for games.

When I want to play games with good sound I either use headphones or my main hifi, but the gigaworks are pretty good for basic use, but then if I had to use 1 thing for gaming out of small speakers or headphones I would take headphones every time.

Gigaworks are indeed good, but the T20s are £55. The T10's aren't part of Creative Gigaworks range though, they come under their cheaper Inspire range, which while fairly decent, don't really compare to the better T20's.

In your opinion what's better. Stereo or 2.1?

I am not fussed about having a sub.

2.1 speakers in general are better for gaming, due to the extra bass of the subwoofer; stereo is better for music. If you only play games occasionally, you might not miss the extra bass a 2.1 set provides.

I'd probably go for the Creative T10 over the Logitech Z200, because they have a bass port, like the T20 does, which helps with bass on speakers with small woofers.

I think either Creative T10 or Microlab FC330, would be a good choice for around the £30 mark. If it was my £30 to spend though, I'd be more likely to go for the T10 with the aim of listening to music more than playing games.

I covered the bass port on my T20, the bass port makes them sound like a bloated mess. But I only use them for youtube or some games like rocket league etc.

Just don't even bother trying to get good bass from 3" drivers it is not going to happen, if you want bass then get some 2.1 with a sub, but at 30 they are all going to be low sound quality, would be better with some headphones.

A second hand pair of diamond 7s off ebay, some bell wire and any old 70s or 80s hifi amp for £10 at a car boot would outperform anything listed so far.
