Hi, I'm looking for the best kind of speakers suited for listening to metal music at a loud volume.

I am looking to spend between £50 and £150, but have no idea on the best kind of speakers to get!

Any suggestions would be great

Cheers, Josh

Are you talking about Hi-Fi speakers which require an amplifier, or pc speakers/active speakers with a built in amplifier?

If you mean Hi-Fi speakers which require an amplifier, for LOUD listening of metal, i would recommend Cerwin Vega speakers. They are loud and aggressive. Cerwin Vega are well known for making stage speakers and such as well...

And because of thier nature, they tend to make metal sound nice and 'full' because they are not audiophile grade speakers, so you do not notice so many of the recording imperfections typically associated with metal...

In that price range there are the VE-5M's (might be a tad difficult to find online)

For desktop speakers, it is probably best to wait for a response from someone with more experience of desktop speakers, though i would recommend logitech, corsair or edifier branded PC speakers.

And remember that wattage does not = volume.

Alright, thank you for pointing me in a direction!

I guess I was looking more at desktop speakers, as that is what ocuk seems to sell, and i'd rather buy products here that I know will perform.

what would be the best current desktop speakers without distortion in the price range? I would assume not to buy a surround sound.

as a note, I bought this motherboard last month which says it comes with "8 Channel (7.1) HD Audiop with THX TruStudio Pro"; I guess that would be good enough to not need a sound card?

have a look at the logitech x-530 and x-540 5.1 speakers, well within your budget,i have a set of the 530's myself and they sound good playing ac/dc,guns n roses ect, very deep bass and no distortion, read the reviews for them

Logitech z623, corsair sp2500, or a used pair of Logitech z2300's. (considered by many to be superior to the z623, which was thier replacement)

In this price range I would say to avoid the old Logitech x series speakers because as far as I know the subwoofers distort at very high volumes.. I have used x530's and x210's. The x210's were far worse for distorting than the x530's however.

My motherboard has that. It is a fancy way of saying Realtek HD Audio with software to make it sound less terrible :p i upgraded to a £30 Xonar DS and the difference (to my ears) is night and day :)
