Hello,

I have just purchased an i7 system, but have still to get a monitor as well as speakers.

I will be using the PC as a media centre in my living room, linked up to an HDTV as well as a 24" monitor.
I play a lot of games, but its not the most important thing, i use my pc for music and movies just as much.
I have a radeon 4870x2 2gb, 6gb DDR3 RAM, and the new Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 sound card.

I dont want to spend unecessary cash, but i can spend a few hundred on a sound system if its worth it.

I have been looking at both Logitech z-5500's as well as the Creative G750 7.1.

I have no idea what would be best, if anyone has any ideas on what i would get the most out of my set up with id really appreciate it!

Cheers

The S750's are well ahead of the 5500's in terms of sound quality (mid range etc) but they lack a decoder, so you wont be able to use them with, say, an Xbox 360. For just PC use, however, they quite possibly are the best pc speakers out.

Had mine for nearly 3 years and dont regret the purchase at all :)

Thanks for that mate, might have swayed my decision as i don't plan on having a ps3 or xbox as i do any gaming on the PC.

One thing that is quite important to me though - to run my HDTV and Sky through them as well, would i be able to do that with the G750's?

Cheers :D

I looked at both these before finally going with the Z5500's.

The Creative ones had good mid range as already said, but lacked the bass that the Logitechs had. Also the Creative build quality and appearance let it down.

I went with the Z5500's and wouldn't swap them....awesome sound and connectability, look great......but note that the sub is a beast!

Hmm, strange as I have to turn the bass down on the system, before even attempting to play anything through them :D

Neil, unfortunately you'd need a decoder to run sky through it, which Creative no longer make. Theres a couple on ebay, but theyre second hand or well overpriced.

You could go with the 5500's, but the ones my mate has are tinny as hell after I heard them from using my 750's for a few years. Maybe he has them set up incorrectly, I dont know, but that put me off them for good. Not discounting father-ted here, but just how I have made a conclusion after actually hearing both. And on the build quality and appearance front, I have had no problems and they are very sturdy, well built pieces of kit :)

Plus side with 5500's - built in decoder
Plus side with 750's - better sound quality

All comes down to how badly you want connectivity because if I was in your situation, I'd still go with the 750's based on the quality they hold over the 5500's. But ofcourse, everyones different so maybe the 5500's will be ok for you.

Z5500's 'tinny'......I would tell your mate to RMA them then, as they are bassy as hell....he either has them set up incorrectly, or they are faulty.

I tried out the 750's before I tried the 5500's, and without doubt the 5500's had much more bass. Granted the 750's have better mid range, though hardly noticeable to the untrained ear....the 5500's have more bass without a doubt.

Surely somebody else on here has tried both, cant just be me....so dont just take my word for it.

Find somewhere that stocks them both and try them for yourself. I did and thats why I chose the 5500's.....the neighbours wont like it though :D

Plus side with 5500's - built in decoder, better looking, more bass, great build quality
Plus side with 750's - marginally better mid-range sound quality to the trained ear
