I currently work in IT and home cinema doing custom AV installs. I'd like to get my foot onto the networking career. What qualification would you recommend for someone looking for a starter support role. I do have some basic networking knowledge just not enough to use in a work place. Ideally home learning too.

CompTIA Network+ (vendor neutral)
CCENT (Cisco focussed)

Both are decent to have for a junior tech, and I think you can home study both of them.

Or maybe Cisco CCNA if you want to go a little more advanced, also home study..

you can study all the Cisco stuff at home, and then go to test center for exam. Cheaper , quicker and hassle free.

cb-nuggets do really good video lectures, saves a lot of time instead of reading through the books, which are about 800 pages each (2 books)
