Me and the fiancee are Heading there in a couple of weeks and will be going to a steakhouse on one evening

Last year we ate at Hawksmoor Spitalfields , nice enough food but expensive , had better for less

The previous year we visited the Maze grill, very nice food and not as busy or bustling as the Hawksmoor which made for a quiter more relaxing evening , again not cheap but cost less than the Hawksmoor overall

So ideally we want somewhere else to try that does great steak , not mega expensive but don't mind paying a little bit extra if it's worth it

Any recommendations ?

I wouldn't say best steaks, but I really enjoy Goodmans for an overall meal, with decent steaks too.

I personally reckon Hawksmoor offer the best steak in town, but you could also look at Goodman, The Palm or STK. Not been to the latter two, but apparently both quite decent.

I have somewhat limited experience of high end steakhouses, but how I would rate those in London:

1. Gaucho Tower Bridge
2. Hawksmoor Spitalfields

Gaucho Richmond

Not sure what happened, but the Gaucho in Richmond was awful, and the one in Tower Bridge was easily the best steak meal I have ever had.

Goodman/Hawksmoor tbh.

I think Goodman is marginally better food wise though the wine list is less well priced than Hawksmoor.

I've heard good things about Cut - but everyone I know has said its a fair bit more expensive than goodman/hawksmoor.

Beyond the steak houses, you can get some stunning beef at places like Gauthier, Apsleys if you want something a bit different.

CUT I heard was a rip off for what it was. For me it was hawkmoor over Gaucho any day. Gaucho the whole experience was meh, but Hawksmoor meat was nicer for me and the experience and sides were better too.

Goodmans is on my list, but they didn't have a table last time and I suck at planning.

I loved the Hawksmoor for everything apart from the steak. Wasn't that great when I went to be honest. Gaucho is fantastic though. A slightly cheaper version is Santa Maria del Sur down on the Queenstown Road, rather good little place.

Hawsmoor is as good as anything I have had in UK but I think I have been spoilt at various steak houses in the US which are a world ahead

Gaucho went down hill for me a few years ago. Hawksmoor is as good a steak as I've had from one of the larger restaurants, Maze Grill is also very nice and a little quieter inside. Not been to Goodmans but I have heard good things about it. There is a great little steak restaurant near me (Roxie Steak) which serves great fillet. Comparing price to quality, I'd rather eat there than at Hawksmoor. I'm sure that there are a number of other great little steak restaurants in London.
From where I've eaten, I don't believe that there is a best country to eat steak in. Providing you get top quality meat and it is cooked to perfection, you can't go wrong. I do remember paying a lot less for my steak in the US and South Africa compared to London though.

I've walked past a little restaurant near Bank that looks quite good and has been recommended often to me. Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte. It serves just one meal, steak frites. There are 3 of them in London.

It's ok, they put too much sauce on the steak imo, but otherwise its pretty good, though a step down from goodman/hawksmoor.

The desserts and wine list aren't up to much.

I've never had an excellent steak in London.

The best one is probably from the Meat and Wine Co at Westfield Shepherds Bush. It was not that great and over priced but the best one i've had in London. The steak i had at the Spur in O2 was ok.

I actually had pretty disappointing steaks in the states in comparison. Must have been my luck :p

You need to choose your steak house, e.g. applebees make terrible steaks, outback is just about OK, a proper independent with quality USDA Prime beef will knock your socks off.

Bets steak i ever had was Mannies in Minneapolis

Bill came to around $150 person. The whole experience was sublime. So good I am tempted to fly there just to eat another steak, even although the city is the most boring wasteland imaginable!

best steak ive had anywhere is in gaucho in london, and whats better is it seemed to be run by hot russian girls.

ive been to Maze grill and was very disappointed, from the looks of it my steak had not been rested and my fiancees fish was full of bones. she pulled out 8-10.

we tried to get in hawksmoor but it was full.

cant say ive had anything but an excellent steak from all the gauchos ive been in.

If you've done the hawksmoor already definitely try Goodmans. Both are great but I prefer the steaks wnd sides from Goodmans. Starters and deserts I prefer the hawksmoor however :p
