Best strategy games?

Rise of Nations; yes it's isometric, but it is fast paced (especially on the higher difficulty settings). Also, an indie game called Hegemony, very fluid and sweet to play.
If you're not just limiting yourself to real-time, I'd also suggest Galactic Civilizations 2.

I saw 700 players online last time I checked and Halcyon was full (I was defaulted into Freeport). Even the foreign language lobbies had some people in them.

How is that possible? I've never seen more then 60/70 people in that room! Intresting. I really feel like im missing out now. Maybe the game was a late bloomer due to the hardware needed.

I LOVE BFM, the second was poo in my opinion though. There is however a problem with them on windows 7 and possibly vista. You have to have certain files that arnt installed properly when you install them on w7 and maybe vista. This means you have to install it on an xp machine (or maybe vista) and copy said files over. This means I can't play BFM any more because I only have w7 pc's

It helps if you're online at the right time of day it's possible people have moved onto Supcom 2 since last month though, I'll have another look now...

Id have to go with C&C Generals, dated but great gameplay.

It's still the best c&c game. Better than 3+4 put together.
