My old firestick doesn't seem to like my Vodafone router, so I'm looking to try something new.

I only want it to occasionally stream from my phone to my TV, so don't want to spend a fortune.

I was thinking Chromecast Ultra, Roku Streaming Stick+, or possibly a Firestick 4k if it might be less problematic with my router? Cheers.

I like my Chromecast ultra as I prefer using my phone as a remote control since it's more flexible and makes searching/switching apps/etc a breeze.

Works fine with Amazon prime video as well now the app is available for Android through the store and supports Chromecast. I think Amazon may only let you use best quality/4k on their own devices though iirc?

Firestick 4k is really snappy. The one you have might not have 5ghz also dead easy to hardwire to gigabit for about a tenners worth of hardware.

I've had a firestick that would work fine on 2.4ghz plugged into a receiver USB socket, but 5ghz would cause it to reset occasionally. Switching to it's own usb power supply solved the issue.

So just about 1 recommendation for each device, lol?

I'll do some more research, my TV has most of the apps I need, so a chromecast might be the simplest solution, as I shouldn't need to install any apps onto the stick.

I've been using a fire tv gen 2 and a 4k fire stick, both are fine but I admit I do prefer having prime as a separate app like on my shield rather than amazon content being integrated in to the UI. I had a Roku a few years ago but the really simple interface in some apps bugged me. I think Netflix was the full proper UI but others like Prime were very basic compared to other streaming devices, has this improved now?

I had an old chromestick as well but having to use the phone for everything just got annoying.

so that's a google android option ?, versus a closed system chromecast ultra
- why can't they revive the chromecast audio

I'm in the roku SS+ camp - frequently with plex
only issues I have, no MPEG2 license (so interlaced tv stream need transcoding),
haven't yet tried the Britbox app , and pretty sure it won't run a eurosport app (for tour de france)
It will run the BBC HLG trials, the automatic profile switching 24/60/60hz is good

I've decided to order the Chromecast with Google TV, had anyone seen it for less than its £59.99 RRP yet? Thanks.

I've got a premium 4k Netflix sub, and I think that's just the standard HD sub, but I stand to be corrected.

I'd prefer to just buy the stick for now, hopefully it will drop in price, at £50 it would already have been ordered...
