best telephoto lens to add to my setup?

It would really depend on what you want to shoot, lighting conditions etc.
If you provided an idea of what you want to take photos of with it i'm sure people would find it easier to recommend something :)
 
Canon EF70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM can be had for around £370 or cheaper if you shop around.

Canon EF75-300mm f4.0-5.6 III USM (58mm) can be had for under £200

As others have said what will be its final use.

sorry your right. im looking to have a lens for motorsport and other longer range activities. daylight settings mostly.

my 17-40 just doesnt give me the reach in these senarios ok the 35-80 gets closer but the Q of the lens isnt all that. (i paid £8 for it) hope thats more useful

however im open to people suggesting what uses a particular lens will give me as i just dont have any exp in the telephoto side of photography

they sound good - i think ill just save for the 70-400 IS unless i hear other alternatives. however is the Is really worth it to me when i will have my tripod all the time for using this lens?

lol most people post in here to say they are selling on the MM anyway!
 
im also looking for a decent telephoto , but theres just so much choice

I know its a lot more than your budget but so far i`ve looked at the Sigma 100-300 f4 DG EX + free 1.4 TC + 3 yr warranty , thats at £645

I`ve also been looking at the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 EX, ive seen that for £570

These are meant to be very good lenses, albeit costly but a lot cheaper than the canon L stuff- plus there black :)


I`m not sure which of these 2 lenses I`d prefer the most, i s`pose the 100-300 + 1.4 TC is probably the best deal & choice , i just cant push myself to splash out the cash as i still need to invest in a tripod, backpack, etc :(
 
I have the canon 100-300 USM and really like it, more than the 75-300's I've tried
however, if I could have IS, I would have it.;
esp for motorsport.
for your budget, 75-300 IS seems the best, do sigma do an IS equiv?
