Right, I have up to about 400 squid for a new screen (yeah, yeah, but I have been saving for ages!).
It will be mainly used for editing the 3036x2010 NEFF images from my digital camera, but also a bit of video work and the usual MS Office, email etc... I'd obviously like to stick with a TFT if possible.

Any recommendations or advice (e.g. what's the minimum res I should be looking for, what contrast ratio, etc...)?

Many thanks,

Dan.

well

save a bit more, or look around for a certain auction site, for a dell 2407wfp 24" revision.

having said that bear in mind that lcd monitors do not have a very accurate colour reproduction, best would be an crt for such requirements.

the new dell 30"-Hc has a 92% colour gamut, so that might be worth looking into although clearly out of your budget.

if you really wanted to get fancy, i know that both ibm and viewsonic produce 22" diagonal 3840 x 2400 Pixel lcd Monitors. very expensive but hey at least you don't have to scroll.

Yeah, but the gfx card to support 3840 x 2400 will be another £500~£1,000 on top :D

I would be looking to get something like the Sony GDM-FW900, huge, weighs a ton etc. but very high res and you can pick them up for about £100.

TFT your best bet is a 2407

Thanks for the advice so far; I'll check out AMDPower's suggestions.
I realise I'll have to wait a few years to get away from scrolling. I reckon it will happen though, after all, it's only a few years since any half decent 15" TFT cost in excess of 300 quid. Mind you, I imagine I'll have updated my Nikon D70 to something with a significantly higher resolution by then as well so I can't win really!
Even if I still have to scroll, at least I'll notice a big difference when I upgrade from my ageing 15" TopSync TFT I suppose.
I can live with sub-standard colour reproduction of a TFT as long as it's not too pronounced, I've always thought colours look even weirder on a CRT screen anyway!

Any other suggestions of what to go for sub 400 squid?

£400 a tight budget but flexible choice in the 20" range

widescreen good vieing angles and colour reproduction. S-IPS panel.

1.Eizo 20"
2.Dell 2007fpw 20"
3.Nec 20gwx2 20"

hard coated anti reflective screens are usually best for photographs, which is why I put them in that order.

If you want non widescreen I'd go with the Nec professional range.

Definitely find the extra to get a 2407WFP and of course shop around for the best deal as always. The size/res suit your requirements better than 20" and 22" in my opinion. They're getting cheaper all the time too.
