Just wondering.. is Arctic Silver 5 still the best thermal paste out there?

I need to reseat my CPU cooler and have some 7 year old Arctic 3 lying around, will this still be OK to use? Does it go off?

Or am I better off binning it and getting some new Arctic Silver 5?

Thanks..

Best ever review including toothpaste and water as a TIM here.

Just remember, if the heatsink is properly mounted, the TIM has next to no impact. Everyone goes on about how they changed TIM and it made 5C difference or whatever. I cry BS! It is easily possible to achieve huge differences in performance just by remounting the sink properly. Most people are not able to do repeatable mounts so the variation in the efficiency of the mount is far greater than the difference caused by a change in TIM.

The mere fact of trying to put on a better TIM is certain to produce great care in the mounting of the sink which will be repsonsible for 90% of any performance benefit.

Heh. Enjoyed that.

I reckon it's probably true that applying and mounting properly will likely make more difference that changing TIM for most people. Not sure most people aren't capable of re-mounting, though. Most can't be bothered, I guess, but then, let's face it, it's a right faff in most cases.

Love the Megahalems mounting mechanism, by the way. So easy to use and easy to get right. I'm sure that's a key factor as to why it's so consistently high up in the HSF performance charts whilst others (like the Tuniq Tower, Baram, Ultra, Fenrir, etc.) seem to do better in some reviews and worse in others.
