Best time to buy a gaming laptop? What's a worthy upgrade?

I bought my Zephyrus G15 5800hx 3080 laptop off Facebook marketplace around 3 Years ago when it was only a few months old it's still performing well but I've got an upgrade itch.

Ive got a reasonably high end desktop at home but I've realised lately that it sees less use than my laptop.

I work away from home for 2 weeks at a time and recently I've been managing a couple of hours gaming most days so I feel like I can justify the upgrade.

Just wondering when a the best time to buy new or used is? Also would a 4080 be a worthwhile upgrade or do I need to go higher?
Thanks
Scott

That's good advice, I'm not desperate to upgrade so probably best just keeping an eye on deals. I thought the intel issues were limited to their desktop CPU's?

I've found a 13980HX RTX 4080 Scar 16 for just under £2k seems about the best deal about at the moment but can't decide if I should or not.

I've also been looking at the legion 7i pro with a 14900hx. I think their customer service is better in the event of any issues. Can't find any very good deals though.

Need to decide between the two.

I've ordered a the scar 16, couple of comprises 4800mhz memory and apparently there's a high chance of performance regression when updating the bios as the 13980hx is one of the affected cpus.

It's brand new boxed from a VAT registered seller for £1925 and I may be able to claim the Vat back.

I'm normally all about used bargains but with the Intel CPU issue and AMD gaming laptops being a bit scarcer I ended up buying a new 2023 scar 16 for £1925 from eBay. I've got a 4080, 13980hx ( with immediate bios update) and 2 years warranty. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Yeah I was tempted to sit out until the 5000 series announcement but I don't feel like I've missed out on any bargains

I've not really used it in anger yet as I only use it as a laptop when I'm away with work only had a few rounds of COD whilst plugged into an external monitor. It performs very very well roughly twice as fast and it's about the same noise wise. The G15 definitely feels more premium build quality wise.

I'm heading back off to work in just over a week so I'll report back again after that. :)

That's a pretty good deal.

Funnily enough, about 3 years ago I bought a G15 Zerphyrus from a MM here. It was to see if it would work as a DTR. It's been and still is a great laptop, but it didn't do enough for me to want to get rid of my desktop, so I've been using both since.

I'm interested to know how you are finding your Scar 16 in comparison to the G15. Performance, noise etc.

Cheers
The screen is the biggest difference it's a big improvement over my G15. I'm able to turn settings up a good bit further while maintaining decent frame rates. Only negative I have is the power brick. The DC cable is a good bit shorter meaning I need to have the power brick sat near the laptop rather than on the floor.

I'm feeling like I definitely bought at the right time, 4000 series laptop prices have risen and 5000 series isn't much of an upgrade
