Best Time To Buy A New TV

I have to buy two new TVs for my house and I'm just wondering when the best time to do this is in my circumstances.

I'm looking at a 50/55 inch and a 32 inch. The larger one will be 4k and the wee one will be mounted in the kitchen. Both will have Sky Q attached as the main use.

I don't want to buy rubbish but I don't have a huge budget either. A couple of Samsungs would be fine or similar brand. Maybe £500 for the large and £300 for the smaller one. If that Samsung becomes an LG or a Sony then that's fine.

Given that the requirement is so flexible and relatively low end is my best bet value for money wise to buy on Boxing Day to get the best potential for a bargain? If I bought just now will I be kicking myself later if there are sales or at this price point are reductions minimal? You always see the non-branded TVs slashed (one model anyway) in the various Boxing Day sale/Black Friday but I don't know if it makes any real difference for what I want to do?

If anyone has any model suggestions Id be open to any advice there also

Whatever you get and when ever you get it, you can guarantee it will be cheaper somewhere a few days/weeks later.

Bit out of your budget, but I have been after a new TV for a few months and waited till Black Friday to get a discount on an LG C9 55".

As we were discussing the pros and cons and price etc, the sales guy said, this is a great price at the moment, but pretty sure it will be cheaper in new year sales, and it will drop again next year when new models come out, and it will drop again next Black Friday, if you keep waiting, you will never ever get it, so just take the jump and get it now.

So I did, and praised him for his honesty.

That's my view too. I certainly wouldn't wait past the New Year sales as I will need the TVs by then but don't particularly need them until then. I guess there is always the chance of a bargain then but I don't want to be always waiting for the next price drop as, as you say, it just becomes a cycle.

Does anyone have an opinion on this TV?

the best time to buy a TV is when they go EOL and are massively reduced. this happens mid january to march. so within that 10 week time period.

there is a catch though. since they have went EOL. you don't know how low they will go or when stick will run out. so you have to take your chances. do you risk waiting for them to go lower and if they sell out you are stumped.

Yeah that's a good point. I think I'll just buy Christmas week after Christmas Day and if there are any bargains then so be it and if not, its not the end of the world at this price point.

I'm also looking for a soundbase or equivalent for not a lot of money. I know all the reasons why they aren't great compared to full surround sound but needs must at the moment. Any thoughts on something at the more budget end or the market? Was looking at the Sky Sound box thing but not sure how that would work with other devices if at all.

there are 2 soundbars for sale in the members market iirc.

the sky one - which IMO is crap. and a yamaha ysp 2700. i own one of these and bought it after owning 2 previous yamaha soundbars and listening to a mates who had bought one.

you can't go wrong with the YSP 2700 IMO especially cheap second hand

Hmm, im not sure what to do. I already have a sound bar and have nowhere really to put it as sitting in front of the tv its too high and there isn't really anywhere else it can go. The sound base idea meant it would be more unobtrusive but short of spending £600 on the Sonos one I suspect the quality isn't great.

Yeah sound base's are crap in comparison

I would recommend going into John Lewis during the week after Christmas and looking at their open box offers. My last TV was one of those and was £250 off for what they called damage and I called a surface scratch that cannot be seen unless you look at the side rear of the TV and it still had the full 5 year warranty.
