I am looking at changing ISP, im currently on plusnet and the billing date is the beginning of the month. I want to request my MAC and change isp this month however I am unsure on the timing. I dont want to run into next month as they will charge me again and I imagine getting a refund will be next to impossible but I want to utilise my month as I have paid for it?

So ladies and gents, when shall I request my mac and give it to the new isp?

PS I like the word month ok ;)

i rang and cancelled my ntl broadband, had to give 30 days notice, but the 30 day starts on the day you ring to cancel.

You need neither. It's a MAC code you need.
CBUK's went out more than a year ago.

Strange.

I was working for BT <6 months ago and we used CBUKs.

Mind you. Takes that long for /decent/ info to filter down from d' manangement it wouldn't surprise me.

A few of my old bosses don't rate DSLmax... Not for gaming at least. what say you?

Not for migrations you shouldn't have been. BT were using MACs for migrations in August 2004.

BS. Interleaving on dodgy lines might be an issue, but you can get that switched off with an ISP with a clue.
Decent ISP should be able to keep congestion at bay too, so there's no issue.

BS?

maybe just idle gossip but i know from experience that what bosses tell you, and what actually happens is generally miles apart.

BT bosses say how things *should* work, BT troops tell you how things DO work. The spread of correct and incorrect information varies depending on which BT building you're in!

kinda miss it in a way. would have love to be picked for FTTP trials! Miss my visits to Adastral.

lol ya mo-fo i know that. i was questioning you're theory behind your BS accusation m'lud.

yeah, MAC for /migrations/ but CBUK is (sorry "was") used loads in BT, but having not been there since.. err... August last year things might have changed.

(was at the BOU for 3 years but was let out for good behaviour and a my bail conditions state i cannot go within 1 mile hahaha)

There's ISP's pimping the "not suitable for gaming" line as well, but it's utter crap - as far as latency goes, it's no different from the status quo. Hence, BS.

Some folks have even seen lower latency on regrading to IPStream Max.

maybe lower now... but when the masses decide to move to it, will it be as stable?

righty... im off to the uni bar. tatty bye!

Equally so as current arrangements, and if it doesn't, anyone with any sense should be looking for a MAC.

Have, er, fun.

improbable... just been back at uni since leaving BT and haven't had any need to go there at all until the missus told me there was a couple of DnB dj's there, it's free to get in and, well, why the devil not. will be fun watchin the kids drinking alcopops and acting all grown up ;)
