just tried to install azureus for mac, said it needed java, downloaded java dmg off apple site but it says the one on the os is newer. when i install azureus and load it the dock item bounces but then disappears.

what do you use?

... Azureus, with the latest version of java from Software Update. I must admit I've never had a problem with it. It's always "Just worked".

Transmission is great but doesn't have encryption which is basically a requirement for anyone who runs on the packet shaped MaxDSL connections.

I use Azureus if I'm leaving my system to download the torrent overnight or something. If I'm planning on doing other work in Photoshop or Aperture then I use Transmission as it's much better performance wise.

Ive been using this as per recommended in the essential os x apps thread. Does the job just fine :)

thats what i did , but one thing i dislike about it is the ability to only download certain files from the torrent. Which you might want to do so you get something that you want to watch earlier and not have to wait which does get really irratating

Azureus for functionality, any of the others for samller footprints but less functionality.

Azureus has the best plugin manager, you can install plugins like PEERGUARDIAN, and SPEEDSCHEDULER from a menu. Both of which I recommend.

You can also configure (one tick box) for encrypted bit torrent transfer which is increasingly useful as ISP are shaping the bandwidth of unencrypted torrent packets.

I'd say Tomato Torrent was the best client I've used, however Bits on Wheels is good if you prefer a more 'visual' program; also has a nifty 3D swarm thing :) .

Personally, I'd avoid Azureus simply because its a bit of a hog on memory, but thats my opinion.

I use Azeurus in Windows and probably will on my Macbook when I get around to buying it. It is a java app so technically it's already universal by being written in java and is for this reason that you can expect it to perform as well as it does in windows.
