I've got a LG oled 55b something with webos 4.0? And frankly I find it really crappy for apps.

Is there a brand that has a much better range. My 8 year old Samsung seems to have an equally good if not better selection.

Personally I would, and did, get an external device to the TV such as a Roku streaming stick, Amazon Fire, Apple TV etc to provide apps, catch up services etc.

Pick the TV with the best picture and other features that aren’t something you can do anything about, but apps etc can easily be addressed another way in my view.

technically Samsung TV's have the best app support

LG or Sony is second best.

But all in all, all of them suck compared to an external box like Apple TV

Android TV has the most apps.

I don't need to use an external box as 4K HDR\Dolby works great :)

What are you finding the LG is lacking? I've got OLED 55B7 and aside from Apple TV (which is only supported on newer models) it's got everything from the major TV and streaming providers, far more than my previous Samsung did.

Most apps doesn't mean a lot, there's plenty of junk on all of them.

I find the LG WebOS on my C9 has everything I need and then some. I use Amazon, Disney, NowTV, Netflix, Twitch, Youtube, iPlayer and some others less frequently and my only criticism is with the Twitch app which doesn't let you log into your account.

I got rid of any boxes when I got the C9 because of the interface/usability/app availability.

If you feel like this with WebOS, never go for Panasonic! :p

I suppose Sony android TV the best for apps but I wouldn't want bloated Android OS for TV .

Prefer dedicated media player anyway,.faster than th TV own.

But I suppose if the TV had decent hardware to go with front end that allowed Kodi..

I aquired a Panasonic oled for purely the quality of the panel and PQ. The TVs interface is frankly horrid but functional. Feed it with SkyQ, A 4k Roku, Nvidia Shield and a PC.
Not a fan of any TVs smart features tbh but each to thier own.

I would always pick an external solution rather than rely on the apps on the TV.
The TV is just the for picture.

I do like LG WEB-OS though.

I find the LG in our bedrooms operating system to be far superior than the Sony XG900 in our front room.

The Sony is a better tv by a stretch but it’s just so slow and dim witted compared to the much cheaper LG.

Both Disney+ and Brit box appeared sooner on the LG as well. Shame really, to me it spoils an otherwise excellent tv.

Another plus for the LG web OS. I use on my C9 and it is excellent.

I will add a caveat and say that LG are particularly bad at supporting older models, and for that reason alone I would recommend an external box like Apple TV.

My Sony Android TV has every app I do use and dozens I have no use for. Definitely no need for an external device with this TV.

I’ve got a E8 (2018 OLED) and while I think the OS is ‘ok’ I still prefer using an external means of accessing YouTube etc. I use a 4K Apple TV and IMO it’s one of the beat things I’ve bought. Nice and slick, picture - especially on The 4K content purchased through iTunes, is fantastic. Expensive compared to the competition but a really very nice piece of kit.

Apple TV 4K. The OS is rapid and super easy to operate.

It also makes streaming from iOS devices very easy so listening to music or videos off the phone is a few clicks.

You can also link your iOS phone so when you type in text to search for things or sign in etc you can type it on your phone so it’s super quick. There’s also a remote in iOS that’s great too, handy when the remote has been misplaced.
