Best type of bed frame?

What is the best type of bed, metal, wood, divans, futon, leather etc and why is it the best bed frame? Which type lasts the longest and makes the least noise, best value for money, looks best and so on.

I have a rather ornate metal bed frame in my bedroom that looks very nice.

Have a futon in the spare room which sometimes I sleep on just for a change. Both are very comfortabl. The futon makes less noise than the metal frame though.

My proper bed frame is wooden and is one of the better purchases I've ever made. I love it. Sadly it's in storage and will be for another few months.

Currently using a dreadful metal one that creaks and feels nasty to the touch. Plus, I just don't think metal frames look that 'cosy'.
