Best upgrade from 6600

Want to upgrade my cpu to a quad. I only use my pc for gaming and smut
Got 3 options as iam on a tightish budget.
1) a q9550
2) a p2 and am2+ mobo
3) a p2 +am3 mobo + ddr3 ram

With my current rig i can use some of my componets for options 1&2 and would like to know if a p2's performance is heavily affected by using ddr2.

My current rig is also w/c http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18040775 would a quad be too much heat for this setup?

Find a used Q6600.

yeah get a Q6600, great CPU and do well with overclocking

Play bad company 2 on your E6600 @3.2 then play it with a Q6600 @3.2 and see what happens

Agree with guest, the difference in some games between the E and Q6660 is pretty big and it's a lot cheaper than the Q9550 for only a small performance loss.
