At the moment i have;

E6300 @ 2.03GHz (as fast as i can take it with my mobo)
2x1GB PC2-5300 Corsair XMS2
ASrock 775dual VSTA mobo
7600GT

--------------

What would be the cheapest way to get a significant boost?

Budget is around £200-£250

I play games every so often so gfx need to be of a reasonable standard but not top of the range.

Most of its use will be for photoshop, video encoding and other adobe tasks.

I hope you can help me out.

is there anything less expensive than the 4850?

I'm no big gamer. As long as the game runs smoothly i'm happy. I dont need everything on high detail.

Any sub £100 options?

Thanks for the reply, but the 6400 memory you selected wont work in my mobo.

Not sure, but i think the CPU wont work either.

I think i might do as the above suggested and buy a new mobo and OC the crap out of my E6300 untill i can afford a new CPU.

i had an e6300 at 3.2GHz in my p5q-e
an e6300 is still a VERY capable chip

get an asus p5q board and a 2X2GB pc2-6400 kit - [faster ram is just not worth it]

graphics - if you have anywhere in the region of £100 to spend then you should only be looking at a 4850

if you get something cheaper then you will spend a big chunk of money that could have gone on a better card

The 256mb GT is held back by the lack of memory. Much better to spend the extra and get a 512mb one. Even get a second hand one off the bay for £50-60.

He does'nt need a new cpu. That one may not work in his board anyway. What he needs a decent mobo so that he can clock the one he has further. The Gigabyte EP43 DS3L is a good board at £72.84. I would have suggested a Asus P5Q but they have now jumped to £100 and i really don't think it's worth that.

The Kigston HyperX ram on this week only is good at £43.46. If you only have a 32bit OS you will not see all of the 4Gb though.

I think after your comment that you are not much of a gaming I would save yourself a lot of money and just get the motherboard and memory I suggested and stick to the 7600GT you've got or possibly look at the HD4670's though the £70 price tag may well not be worth it. depends really what games you play and how often. The 7600GT isn't that bad of a card still.

My 7600GT cant run FIFA very well. Which is what has prompted the upgrade.

I dont need cutting edge graphics, just enough to play new games. Not nesseseraly on high detail.

You can get a 3850 Pro for around £50 which is just as good as a 4670 (sometimes slightly worse but sometimes a lot better than the 4670). I just got one for my second rig brand new for £48 delivered. Nice little card.
