Best upgrade path

Currently got
Pentium Dual-Core E2140 1.6GHz clocked to 3Ghz
XFX 650i Ultra MB
4 x 1GB OCZ DDR2 800
ATI X1800 XT graphics card

What would be the best bang for buck upgrade a AMD Phenom II or a i3 setup and will it be faster then a Q6600 @3.4ghz when clocked?

I would be looking at overclocking which ever I get to the max with something like the Corsair H50-1 or a similar air cooler if someone can recommend anything better.

Looked at the i3 @ 4Ghz bundle and thinking about getting that motherboard and CPU and the OCZ ram separately and clocking it myself to save a few quid.

Anyone know what the Asus motherboard is like Asus P7H55-M Pro Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard compared to the gigabyte?

Not 100% savvi on the new I3 chip but the little i do know is that the I5 is better and more future proof. For the price difference id say it was a no brainer but it all depends on what your using the machine for
