I want to upgrade my current system to run flight sim X with the best possible frame rates with every setting on full.
I have £400 (possibly a little more at a push )to spend from xmas and don't know wether to change my MB & chip (I suppose that means RAM too!) or to add another 8800GTX
I am hoping Vista and direct x 10 will make improvements.
I know nothing about changing settings as I havn't been computing long, any volunteers to teach me ?

ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE, AMD ATHLON 4400+ (SKT 939)
4 x 512 CORSAIR 3200C2PT, NVIDIA 8800GTX, TAGAN 580 PSU, RAPTOR 150GB

If you want to get another 8800GTX, then you have to change PSU etc.

As far as I know, FSX uses cpu power quite a bit. So your best bet is getting a new cpu.

I'd upgrade the CPU, MB and memory tbh.

E6600 - £215
Asus P5B Deluxe - £123
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX - £199

That would boost your system loads, it does go over your budget though. You could find a cheaper motherboard!

Surely if I change to Pentium I will have to format and reinstall everything on my HD. Is it worth saving for an AMD fx 62 with a new MB and RAM or is Pentium the way to go?

FX-62 ? Absolute waste of money, chap, tbh.

Your better off with a C2D chip anyday of the week.

I'd suggest:

E6300
Gigabyte DS3
2GB DDR2 800
Tuniq Tower

Then clock the pants off the 6300 and watch your rig fly! :D
