Best upgrade?!

My pc has been starting to run a little slow recently so I was just wondering what would be the best component to upgrade to see the best performance increase.

Specs atm:

Core2Duo 2.5ghz @ 3.0ghz
Asus P5Q-VM Intel G45 Micro-ATX MB
4gig OCZ 800mhz RAM
9800GTX 512MB nVidia GPU

I was thinking maybe getting a new DFI MB for some good overclocking and then a ATI Radeon HD 4870?!

Any help would be great, im pretty unsure though because ive been out of the hardware loop for a while.

Cheers.

In what way is it running slow?

That looks like a nice setup to me?

If it's generally slow then i'd look at the HDD. That mobo should clock the quad well enough - 3ghz is a decent enough speed TBH.

you think that's slow? :P

i've got an anniversary edition shuttle, complete with 2.8 ghz P4 (overclocked to 3ghz!!!) with 2gb ram and a 7600GT.

This is slow by todays standards!

Well yeah it just seems really slow when opening new programs, loading etc. Lags in games quite a lot, even more than my laptop!

Couldn't be Vista Ultimate 64bit slowing things down could it? I've heard it is pretty ****e!

Never had any issues with Vista64 on mine.

From your spec i'd say your PC is really nice - only reason for slowing should either be a failing component (most likely the HDD) or possible bloatware/spyware of some kind.

I would confidently say that a rig with tha spec would run 64 very spritely indeed.

Agree with above. It'll be a software issue.

Run malwarebytes/spybot S&D & CCleaner.
Download latest drivers, unistall old graphic drivers run driversweeper and install latest ATI drivers.
Defrag, then see how it is :)

*How olds the windows install ? my old 32bit install got bogged down after about 9 months even though it was kept clean.

Nothing wrong with that spec - maybe you could upgrade to a GTX260/280 or an HD4870 but it wouldn't help general use anyway, only gaming.

Sounds to me like you need to clean your Windows install out a bit. :)
