built this PC with parts from OCUK. was great fun, and has worked very well. one of the best pc's i have owned (lol)

was wondering whats worth upgrading?

Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX Dual Channel (TWIN2X4096-8500C5C)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4730 512MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 240 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Asus M4A78L-M LE AMD 760G (Socket AM3/AM2+) DDR2 microATX Motherboard
NZXT M59 Mid-Tower Windowed Case - Black
OcUK 650W Dual Rail High Efficiency Modular Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502HJ)
Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black)

what would be the best thing to upgrade? kinda on a tight budget, so keep it under 100? or around that. its main use is online gaming. mainly MMO's

this is what i thought of. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-258-AM&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=803 the lowest one(cheaper lol), so i could clock it back up to 3.0

would i see much performance increase? in games such as WoW. which i know is more cpu intensive

Specifically for WOW, what you should look for is CPU that would be faster in dual-thread than looking for more cores. The Athlon II X4 620 would be slower than your Athlon II X4 240 for WOW, because WOW really just uses two cores at most, and the 620 is lower clock speed than the 240.

You should probably get the HIS 4850 1GB like stulid suggested, and also grab a Arctic Freezer Pro 7 Rev.2 CPU cooler and overclock your Athlon II X2 240 to around 3.6-3.8GHz.

wow that cards cooler is super ugly D;

and i actualy forgot about O/Cing my current. guess ill keep my eye on MM for a used card and CPU cooler.

sorry, i like recycling aslong as theres nothing wrong :D

how is the freezer pro then? i really dont think it would be much good being so cheap? my case cooling is really good, sounds like a jet engine. but i play with headphones so it dosnt bother me. i managed 3.3ghz stock volts with stock cooler on that cpu. max was still only hitting 51

Edit: no that dosnt mean im prepared to start push/pull deltas :P

They are quieter and much better cooling than the stock cooler. However, if you don't mind a having a little bit loud CPU cooler, then you could consider the Titan Fenrir. It most likely won't be any louder than your case already is from the sound of it, but it does cost £30.

What case you using by the way?

But I think it's overkill for a 45nm dual-core, and I honestly think the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 will be fine.

i just got a nice deal on the freezer 7 pro rev 2 of Member market. cost me £12 including first class postage. about average, but beats paying from new price.

atm im using NZXT M59 Mid-Tower Windowed Case measured and yeah plenty of space for it. i have filled every fan hole available. (last pc cooked itself) airflow is amazing in it haha. clean it out every few weeks from dust. (thank god for the redneck fan filters made out of tights :P )

im not a hardcore clocker by any means, and im sure the titan fenrir will be overkill. it could probs passive cool my cpu xD

The freezer isnt really much better than the stock apart from it not being so damn noisy. However the CPU you have is super cool anyways so you don't need much cooling for now. WoW isn't exactly the most requiring game out there (remember playing it on san diego with x1650 gpu and was just fine, e2200 with anything above 3850 destroys it already so yeh lol ... ) so I'd probably pick an SSD if you really need to spare money on it now. Or maybe a nice 22-24" monitor if you aint got one yet?

Have you actually used a Arctic Freezer Pro 7 Rev.2? I replaced the stock cooler of 90nm Pentium 4 3.0GHz with one, and it brought the idle temp from 60C down to 45C.

And for E2200 with anything above 3850? What res? And I hope you are not comparing solo grinding to 20~25 men raid.

Hate to break this to you, but a 2nd hand Arctic Freezer Pro 7 Rev.2 would most likely not have the pre-applied MX-2 intact, so you should probably buy a Arctic Cooling MX-3 thermal paste. You can get free delivery for buying anything at OcUK since you met the requirement of being a "loyal forum member".

60 to 45 aint much that much considering that half of the difference there would be due to much better thermal paste anyways.

And no, not solo grinding, everything from 40man raids up to 40v40 AVs back in the days. Actually I've been doing those on san diego with 1900xt ; ). Let's face it, how old is WoW? nearly 6years now ? And it uses probably like 10yr old engine ? What you think ppl played it with for the last 5-6yrs? Quad cores and ATI 4xxx series?

I used to run it with a Q9550 @ 3.5GHz, 4GB ram and a 1gb 4870 @ 1920 x 1200 with all max settings apart from shadows. In 25man raids during boss fights id normally get 15 - 30 fps which isnt a lot. They have updated a lot of stuff in wow. I used to run 40 man raids with an amd 64 x2 4400 and an ati 1900xtx. Doesnt mean it would run it now.
