Best Upgrade

Okay im thinking about buying a new graphics card because i have had to change the settings on my graphics card so that it doesnt overheat but what would be the best upgrade for this pc , for gaming ?

Specs :
i7-3820 @ 3.6Ghz
AMD Radeon II 6950 2GB
2 SSD's one for my OS that is 60Gb and one for games that is 240Gb
2TB Hard Drive

If you want to know anything else i have just tell me but around £1000 upgrade is what im doing but what do you think is best for me to get?
 
What case do you have as that may be the cause of the overheating. With your current spec the GPU seems like the only sensible thing to upgrade. If I was you I would wait until the end of the month and see what the new nvidia cards are like.
 
Well I've been reading a lot in to xfire past few days and seems too much hassle for what it's worth. A 7970 is a great performer on its own but if you want to be hitting an exceeding benchmarks for games 2x 7970s would be overkill in that matter haha. You just need to make sure you have the room and cooling if you do go for 2x.

Bare in mind 3mb + 3mb still = 3mb. Go for the solid 6mb 7970 IMO, less hassle, money and heat.

okay i was probably thinking that card , i was just wondering if it would have more power with 2 haha
 
Oh yeah definitely more power, just comes at a price :P Just because you have the budget doesn't mean you need to spend a bucket load ;)
 
Nice to see you have sorted it out ... What cooling do you have in your case ?? You could add a side and roof fan if you haven't already as this will help a lot and you look to change the cooler on the gpu also

I dont know exaclty what the fans are but i have a fan in every slot for a fan apart from the slot at the top of the case
