Hi,

I already own a 1GB Sandisk Flash Drive and I think it's quite fast but I have no comparison to other drives. I'm now looking for a 4GB stick as I need more space and I was wondering what the best one would be to get. The sandisk one I have is the same shape as the ByteStor or Integral ones.

I have looked on a website for a popular shop reading reviews and they are quite mixed, with some people saying one is fast and another one saying it isn't.

I have my eye on the 4GB Sandisk as it's only around £16 but I'm not so sure :S

IMO the Corsair Voyager GT's, the 8GB being the fastest so far. (they do other ranges to).

They look very ugly, but I just read a review that said it was the best of the bunch :)

£8 more, however it does look sturdy and the speed of the drive is important. I guess it depends how much faster it is than the others, I'll try and fetch some other reviews.

one of the reviews on the shopping site says the speed is 18 MB/s on a 200MB file, that's a lot faster than the one I was using!

Thanks.

I believe it can read far faster (30MB+) and even write faster than above. 8GB GT.

They aint built to be pretty but to survive, read reviews of what it can handle, if not enough buy a Corsair Survivor

The 8GB Corsair Voyager GT is excellent, so much faster than some of the other flash drives on the market. The only thing you will find is they are thick and may be a tight fit if the usb slot next to it is in use. BUT this didn't put me off buying one and I wouldn't change it for something else. :)

My mates LG flash drive transfered files in 43 seconds that took about 7 seconds on my corsair.

A transfer test on my 8GB Corsair gave the following results:

1.12GB 160 files (Mp3's) in 13 Folders transfered in 55 seconds.

959MB Norton Ghost image in 36 seconds.

Nero Burning Rom 8.1.1.4 trial (179MB) in 7 seconds.

76MB file in less than 3 seconds.

I tested different file sizes to give a realistic speed test. You can transfer a word doc or single mp3 track fast to anything! I tend to have larger file sizes so the speed is more relevant and makes even my 1GB crucial drive look slow.

FYI my Corsair drive is FAT32, but I have formatted it as NTFS before.

I use the crucial 4gb at work, but they don't last very long if you keep them in your pocket. I switched to a titanium sandisk cruzer and i've jumped on it, dropped it, and kept it in my pocket since I had it and it just simply works amazing.

Your mileage may vary ........
my cruzer titanium has just died , with some very important files on it. Tempted to open it with my Dremel, and see if the problem is repairable.

if the data was very important, take it apart and see how the memory is packaged. find another flash drive that you don't mind dismantling. if the memory on the 2nd drive is the same, take it off gently.

then, gently remove the memory from the sandisk and place it on the new drives PCB. you ought to be able to hold it on while retrieveing the data.

or, it could be the most common problem with flashdrives, where the pins from the USB connector have separated from the pcb. this happens all the time, in my experience. if you take it apart, you can either, (1) solder it back on or (2) plug it in and hold them together long enough to recover the data.

here is a pic of what happened to my 8gb GT, to be fair to corsair it did still work when i stuck the usb back in and held it in a usb port

My bro has the 4Gb Corsair. It's nice, a bit large like mentioned but you can squeeze it in next to another USB connection. The casing is nice and soft too. Nice piece of kit for the price. :)

i've seen two other Corsair voyager drives where that has happened. the USB plug doesn't seem to be attached very strongly to the PCB :(

Does anyone know in real terms how much faster the Voyager GT is over the standard Voyager. They are essentially twice the price so I would hope they are twice as fast but I know it doesnt normally work that way with computery bits ;)

How are they ugly, the are same as the Non GT apart from Red instead of Blue and say GT.

They are built for abuse, and if major abuse is intended you buy the Survivor.

And there is plenty of reviews showing them trying to kill them and still working after burning/freezing, driving over in a SUV.

The above seems a flaw and will be covered by RMA as of 10 year warrenty (OP said it still worked anyhow).

You can buy a Gay Shinny Alu Thumbdrive if you like that kinda thing, Ive seen them but they mostly have crap performance.
