Friend persuaded me to try an nzb site today instead of torrents. It's very fast with fairly consistent speeds almost maxing out my connection. I downloaded a 4GB test file in 10 minutes, compared to torrents which take considerably longer since the speeds are so inconsistent. So I'm a convert now I think. I happen to have just over 2 weeks left of an astraweb account, so I used that in conjunction with the nzb site. I buy astraweb now and then for a months subscription and have been buying unlimited DSL and speed for $15 (£9.70). But it occurred to me that I don't download that much with newsgroups, certainly not many GB. The one off 180GB plan for $25 (£16) would be better for me as I can use it over any period of time without being limited to the month.
The nzb site is free, nicely laid out, but limited to 20 days retention, but a one off upgrade payment of £7 lasts for 10 years apparently and gives 1500 days retention. So altogether, £23 for both astraweb and nzb seems pretty good value as I probably wouldn't have to pay anything again (to astraweb) for a few months and would get consistently better speeds, like, way better speeds, than torrents, and not limited to 20 days retention.
Is that actually good or do you think I can do better?
