Hi all
I have been looking for a new monitor for a few weeks now and at the moment the Iiyama ProLite E2409HDS 24 seems to be a good deal with a few web sites offering the monitor for less than £130 including Overclockers,
just a couple of questions, Who are Iiyama ProLite, are they cloned monitors, or are they manufactures of monitors.
Regarding the model numbers, I have seen iiyama ProLite E2409HDS-B1 and Iiyama ProLite E2409HDS-1, Is there a difference?
Also on offer this week is the Acer G245 (G245HQbid) at approx £115 and also Acer S240HLbid 24 inch at £130

Can you add your opinion on what you would class as a best buy at a sub £130 Monitor at the moment.

Iiyama is a real manufacturer, not a rebrander. They're quite well know as well and have been around for ages, my CRT back in 95 was from them even.

No idea how good this particular model is and can only find user reviews on it which are overwhelmingly positive, so at the very least it's not a bad monitor. I'm guessing B1-/1 is just a typo, you do often see both a -B1 and and no postfix variation with Iiyama's which afaik is the difference between the product name and product number. One possible downside is that it's CCFL backlit and the power usage/heat product will be higher than is the case with more modern LED backlit monitors.

The other interesting option would be the Samsung S24A300BL. Again no real reviews but a lot of positive user reviews can be found.

Do read http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18397610 ;). Can get your VAT back from Samsung if you get it this weekend.

Samsung are incredible value, their quality is absolute top notch and they could charge far higher, but they are a top premium brand, as are iiyama.

Acer on the other hand I rate as an OK brand, but certainly not on par with Samsung or iiyama when it comes to quality.

I'm in the same boat, been researching for weeks, but for me a VESA mount is a must, will mainly be using it for GW2 and other titles out this year, as well as some photoshop work.

Monitors are always a beggar to research and finally settle on one with a tight budget.

To the OP:

Since you need VESA and a price of less than £130 then I would also give a big thumbs up for the Iiyama. They make nice monitors and this particular model is known to be a solid monitor, especially if you like gaming.

Hi there,

You mention you will be using it for some photoshop - how important is this particular use to you compared to gaming? As if you want it to be good for photoshop then it is usually recommended to get a monitor with accurate colours and wide viewing angles (so colours don't shift when you move your head) - which means either an IPS or VA type panel (not a TN panel).

Since IPS is generally better for motion than VA, then I would go with an IPS panel if you will be doing some gaming as well. Therefore, I would suggest having a look at the 23in E-IPS panel monitors like this Iiyama and this Dell. Both of these also support VESA mounting.

If the photoshop isn't very important - then the previously mentioned 24in Iiyama is the one to go for.

Thanks for the reply (sorry OP for thread hijack, web is a ghetto I tell ya) I would say gaming is the main use out of the two, Photoshop is a hobby at the moment, that I have been studying whilst being out of work due to poor health for a fair amount of time. Would like to make a career change with image editing and design eventually.

I had been looking at IPS panels etc. Sooo out of the loop in whether to get an LED, LCD or what not. Best bang for buck is what im after, and anything thinner than my current Viewsonic Optiquest Q201wb.

It is probably best if you make your own thread where you state your planned uses and budget - then we can all give you some advice, since your situation seems a bit different from the OP's.
