I currently have:
  • 3600x
  • B450 Motherboard
  • 32GB DDR4-3200
  • 3070 Founders Edition
With AM4 coming towards end of life (I assume so because I now see AM5 is out), any suggestions on a good value upgrade? PC is mainly used for 1080p gaming.

As mentioned, for gaming, 5700X3D or 5800X3D are the best you can get on that platform, the latter being less price/performance friendly but a few percent faster.
Check your motherboard has a BIOS that supports them first and upgrade with your 3600 installed. If you pick one up for sub £150 and flog your 3600X for ~ £40 it's not too bad.

Another vote for the 5700x3d.
If you're not too bothered about the latest and greatest, this should last you until AM6 arrives and essentially skip the whole of the AM5 series CPUs

yep 5700x3d is an amazing upgrade for you, dose budget allow for GPU too? 3070 is a good GPU but i think its getting a little old now.

Just chuck a 5700X3D in there and you're all set. That's what I'm going to do.

Edit: Late to the party lol

A 5700X3D is basically a 2 generation performance uplift from the 3600X. It’s a no-brainier at the price they can be had for.

If intending to stay at 1080p then the 5700x3d is the no brainer choice, 5800x3d not worth the price increase, if you're planning on changing screens to 4k or something then gpu could end up being more of the limiting factor though.
