Hi all.

Im looking for a tablet thats android, and not amazon, around 10" upwards in size.

Ive seen the Samsung A8, for around £160, and the Lenovo PL11 for around £180.

Its purely for media consumption. The lenovo has an ips screen apparently, but the A8 has a headphone jack. I have a usb dac i can use though if need be.

Anyone tried either of these? Or have any other suggestions?

Thanks

I got a refurbished tab S4 while I was in hospital. Cost £130 from 4gadgets at the time. For media it is body superb as it has a gorgeous amoled display and decent speakers.

Lenovo had widewine problems in the past and could only show sd streaming content, don't know if sell an issue?

Seriously buy a refurb iPad directly from Apple. They are well priced and cannot be beaten at media consumption

They do Android tablets now :p

Yeah not intersted in Apple. Ive not got anything apple, and cant be bothered with the faff of figuring it out. Android is better for me.

A colleague of mine is very pro apple. I once was on a flight with him. He popped in his overpriced headphones and went to watch a movie he had downloaded to his phone for the flight. His iphone wouldnt play it as he wasnt connected to data. Proper stupid. I asked him why he didnt just play the file with a different app. He just sighed as he explained that it didnt work like that.

I laughed a bit inside.

Its this kind of stuff that drives me mad. Android is bad enough, and has its annoyances, but i havent the energy to learn a new system.

Im not anti apple, but i can never justify the cost of the hardware, though i agree that tablets is a product where apple makes a lot of sense.

Learn something? I thought it was for media consumption? You install an app, login in, stream content. The apps are the same regardless of platform.

I also don't use anything Apple other than an original iPad Air 2, gotta be 8 years old now, use it for watching TV/streaming, reading magazines. As for cost, it's one of the best value products, but I bought refurbished not new, just like I suggested. Thing that impresses me is battery life is still excellent, and it's still really fast for it's age.

But get whatever you prefer, it's your money after all. :)

Definitely do not get an iPad. Got one for free from work and well... I ended up buying a new Sammy A7 10inch just over a year ago for £150 as every time I used the iPad I just wanted to throw it at the wall, so annoying to use.

Can't fault the Sammy at all, use it mainly for media as well. A8 for £160 is a decent price, go for that.

My Yoga Tab 13 with a 13" screen, quad JBL speakers and built in kickstand begs to differ :)

Talking within the sensible budget set out by the Op. But yes that is a nice tablet, hows the Lenovo Bloatware and tracking apps, removable?

Don't recall there being much bloatware on it. But I haven't found anything I can't remove. If it's got tracking built into it then all they are going to track is what I'm watching on Netflix etc, as I use it just for what it excels in - media and games including a portable emulation device. The hdmi input to use it as a second portable monitor has proved quite handy too.
