Hi everyone,

Time to update my Q6600.
I'm set on a 4770k, but not sure what is the motherboards for my needs.

I have 4 sata hard drives (1 ssd)
About 4 UBS 2.0 devices
No need for crossfire or the other thing

Mild overclocking would be good

I've seen mobos as low as £80. But not sure if they would be good enough, or I'd be bottle necking the CPU somehow.

Thanks.

The better overclocking boards have better vrm and power delivery to keep the overclock stable, al depends on how far your gonna overclock.

Hey,

Thanks - that Z87-D3HP looks almost too good to be true.
Especially as I will need a cooler too.

Any drawbacks for my requirements.

I will be overclocking slightly. But not looking to mess with voltages and stuff. Just using the multiplyer to get what I can out of it.

Ta.

Its only down side is lack of SLI support and it does Crossfire at 16X/4x, but its spot on for single cards.

Just before I click buy.

If I take the free cooler out of the equation, would either of these be a better motherboard than the gigabyte:

Asus z87-a
MSI z87-g45

I've had Asus boards ever since my first build 10 odd years ago, and never had any issues with them.

The MSI board was mentioned in another thread & just wondered if it was worth a consideration too.

Asus board will be on par if you throw the awesome Gigabyte UK warranty in to the mix. Wouldn't go for the MSI gaming board with all the other options around.

I use the G45 gaming and it runs my 4770k @ 4.5ghz happily. I have also run both sli and crossfire on the board without issue. Its a decent board with some nice features for the money.

I have the MSI g43 and have been impressed, so I assume the g45 will be boss as well. then again since the a7n8x deluxe days, i've always been a fan of Asus, though they are a bit pricier.
