Hi guys

I am currently running a ATI 6950 2GB card in eyefinity 3 screen mode and was looking at changing to something better

I purchased my current card here and when I am looking now it all just confuses the hell out of me , shoes and handbags are my thing :)

So I am not to fussed if it's ATI or Nvidia and don't want to spend a huge amount £900!!!!!! For a graphics card ??? Are you guys nuts :) , and you moan when us girls spend £200 on a pair of shoes :)

So what could I look at they would be a fair jump from my current card without going silly

Welcome to the forum gemma.:)

THIS if you are leaving it on Air cooling.
when it is back on stock ofc.

UK based warranty and it is soooo silent!

It's not as silent or cool as the Ice-Q under load, I have tried the WF and currently using 7950 Ice-Q in CrossFire, it's a champ. ;)

I have the same cooler as the Gigabyte on my 570, and it is a very good cooler. As mentioned, another bonus is that it's UK based warranty, but unfortunately it's out of stock at the mo. As far as I know, the Gigabyte 7950's are voltage locked, where as the HIS one you linked isn't; the HIS has an even better cooler by all accounts too, though noise is subjective of course. Also, I think OCUK sort out the rma for the first twelve months for the HIS, though I'm not certain about that.

i have just done exactly that with that card. athough i got it from else where as it was 20 quid cheaper and came with crysis 3 aand bioshock infinite and farcy 3 blood.

sold games made it a 200 quid card that clocks like a boss :D 7970 speed for 200 notes bargin. also the cooler is very very quiet :)

That sounds like a fantastic deal I never find offers like that

So looks like th HIS card is a winner then ?

I've got one of these. It's OK when it's idling, but under load it sounds like a big angry mosquito. I wear headphones for gaming, so it's not a big issue for me, but if you're using speakers, I imagine it would be pretty annoying.

Other than that I can't complain.

I have the 7970 version of these in crossfire, I have tried others but these seem to be great for the money, the coolest 7970 and the most clockable, I have just tried 1100/1500 on stock voltage (1.113) and it just ticks over with medium fan settings. There is a thread on the HIS warranty somewhere and its looking like OCUK do a big favour to us HIS owners if anything happens, but its only 2 yrs warranty whereas the Gigabyte is 3.

Are you able to actually change the voltage in the cheaper his 7970 card? Have you checked gpu-z to see if its actually changing?

I went from a 2gb 6950 (also 3 screen setup) to one of them HIS 7950's (had a bust MSI 7950 first)

After selling off the 6950 It ended up costing me about £100 for the new card and the games that came with it at the time (well, basically a few weeks back)

To be honest i wasn't expecting a Huge difference only going up 1 generation but good god its been noticeable :D Haven't tried too much on 3 screens yet I tend to game on my central screen and have browsers/videos/chat whatever on the other 2.

Certainly a decent upgrade, HIS card seems quite the overclocker too, currently up to 1200/1400 and It's still pretty damn quiet while staying under 75-80 degrees *happy bunny*

^^ Go for it. You should see approx double the performance over your 6950. Enjoy. :)

Double, 100% performance increase?

I would say you are looking at 20-40% increase in performance in almost every game, it is really game and resolution dependent, well not so much resolution since the 6950 has 2GB vRam anyway.

However, it will still be a big upgrade but currently as it is, the 6950 is actually still a more than capable card, you just have to come and go and perhaps drop some of the settings in more demanding games like Crysis 3.

I would personally drag it out until it gets to the point you can't play much at decent settings, by then better chips will be out and you will actually see a 100% performance increase.
