Current Spec:
3.2 GHz HT Intel P4
2GB DDR Ram
256MB X300 ATI Radeon.

Although this runs nearly everything that I want to play quite happily, it does mean that I am forced to play Oblivion in 640x480 with lowest detail available. I was looking at getting an X1600 XT, but there are so many ones based on the X1600 that I dont know which one - and I know nothing about Nvidia cards or their current range.

Would X1600 XT or Pro let me play Oblivion in at least a 1024 res with good details, or would an Nvidia card of similar price range be better.

Also - what is difference between X800 and X1600 ?? which is better?

Cheers
Coop

X800 has 256-Bit memory interface, it handles AA and AF much better than the X1600XT, the only other real difference other than the X800 being faster is the latter has shader model 3.0, supposed to make games look a bit more fancy, it doesn't do that much to be honest, if i had to say, see if you can find yourself a X800GTO 'fireblade' edition, last time i seen one they were around £110 and there monsterous overclockers

In the nvidia camp, Best idea would be if possible to stretch your budget to £130-140 and pick up a 7600GT, these cards offer great bang for buck...

you got nearly the same specs as me and i would go with the XFX 7600GT if possible as this is a great card to play with oblivion with

Not all of the X800GTO fireblades are great overclockers. Mine only goes to 440mhz core and 550mhz ram. It's still a decent card and cost about £90.

I too am in a similar situation as daCoops, but one prob is, I'm after AGP :( and bearing in mind devliery costs another £10. I've been looking at X800GTO lately as it's more truthful to that "around £120" category even for AGP.

Next one up price-wise, from X800GTO, seems to be X850XT, at £180 (both on the same page at oc). So that's +£60 or so. Is that gap worth it, performance wise? To me £180 feels hell of a lot more expensive than £120.

I wish I had PCIe. It seems it's more money efficient.

EDIT: It just suddenly struck me browsing the OC vid card section - 7600GT doesn't come in AGP variety (?). lol :D So that goes out the window for me.
