Best video editing software for beginners?

Hi all
I would like to edit some videos i have but i dont know which software i should use.
I would like to clean up the videos like add brightness and remove grain and make them sharper etc.
I am a total begginer so something cheap and simple to use would be ideal.

Giving this a bump because i tried a few from that list and they are either too complicated or way to basic.

Im looking for something that can do basic editing like brightness contrast and grain removal but not something which will dumbfound me.

Can anybody suggest a free program?

Edit: i have arcsoft mediaimpression hd on my pc as the software from my hd camcorder installed it. It only sees the videos the videos recorded with the new cam though and not all my older ones. I cannot find a way to make that software see my other videos though
