Best Video Splitter Program?

Hey guys what would people recommend for cutting / splitting video files. I want something pretty basic; no rendering or special effects etc

I have used Avidemux but it does not seem to like .wmv or .mkv files. Also often there are glitches like it stalls when i scan through the video in WMP or VLC. Or it thinks the finished video is much longer than it actually is; VLC would say it is 20 minutes long when it is only say 5 mintues long etc.

Just looking at the details of it and it does not seem so. Is there not a industry-standard video splitting program?

As far as I remember the mkvmerge utility (part of the mkvtoolnix) will let you split mkv files by size and timecode.
