My favorites so far, in no particular order : Quake, Minecraft, Lone Echo, Alien Isolation, Elite Dangerous, Lucky's Tale.

Gamepad, hmm ... not many, since there are usually way better controllers for the job (G27 wheel for driving games, X55 HOTAS + Voice Attack for Elite: Dangerous, touch controllers for anything that supports them). I guess that leaves Minecraft and Lucky's Tale for "best controller games" for me so far.

The space-sim House Of The Dying Sun is 50% off on Steam at the moment. That supports gamepad. It's a fairly short game by all accounts, but £7.50 seems good value.
I tried it this morning and the VR is very well done. The graphics are very crisp and uncluttered which really suits VR.

Polynomial 2 (Steam) is a good trippy shooterish type game.

Smashing the Battle VR is great with a pad, and for Tinertia a pad is kind of essential.

RedOut works well with the joypad- if you can stomach the insane speeds.
