Best wartime FPS for online multiplayer?

Hardly. BF series, Medal of Honor (well not many play that now) Operation Flashpoint (think that still exists) are just few wartime multiplayer games that can be named.

Call of Duty multiplayer is mostly about close quarters battle. What I love about Battlefield series is that in there you can do whatever you want. When I'm in gung ho mood I get in a vehicle/aircraft and create "big bara booms". If i'm feeling sneaky I will play sniper or special ops. BF2 also has maps ranging from big vehicle dominated maps to grunt action in city maps so I would really reccommend BF2, just make sure you get on a decent server as "unclever" people can spoil the gaming experience.

CoD2 is the best for WW2, i'm just not interested in modern war shooters so can't comment. I do actually prefer CoDUO but CoD2 has a patch due soon that should make it a much better game.

Battlefield 2 mate, don't really think anthing else compares to the intense strategic squad battles in that game.

For Truth.
COD2 single player has to be played but the ending is Very dissapointing.
As far as Multi goes BF2 owns all. There really is No contest at all.
COD2 online is way to easy and the maps are so small its like fiighting in a Tea cup.
Kills are ridiculously easy. Its the kind of game you can just jump into blast away and get bored with very quickly.
On the other hand the variety offered in BF2 keeps you going for ever.
I should know i have over 640 hours logged on BF2 and i still play it Every day.

Way too easy? Surely depends who you're playing? I've owned CoD2 since release day and I've only been on the single player for 10mins, not because its no good but because its so good online. I guess you need to be on the better servers to enjoy it more.

But I agree the maps are too small, hopefully not for long with the SDK and new patch.

Word, malc30. Word. :)

Medal Of Honor Allied Assault tbh! :p

although Battlefield2 is very very good. the whole thing of being on a big battle cruiser and seeing a Harrier flying over oyu just makes you understand how amazing these games are. but no matter how good it is.. it will never have the winch from Vietnam :( hours of fun to be had at LAN parties with the winch

EDIT: i was being serious, allied assault is my favorite online game ever and i have a 7800.. not really using all of my gcard's potential..

well i got bored of bf2 after 200hrs, im hoping the euro pack might breathe new life into it for me. cod2 is just pants online, the patch might make it better with anticheat in it.
enemy territory is good and free, you should deffo check that one out too.

Well, I found BF2 fun for a while, but I'm just utterly bored and sick of it now. It's buggy, the physics suck, half the weapons are gimped, the hit detection is poor. And worst of all, there's no blood or gore! What the HELL is that all about? A war game with no blood?!, ridiculous. Half the satisfaction of killing someone is seeing their guts splattered across the wall before they fall helplessly to the ground into a puddle of their own blood.

I went off BF2 for different reasons.

I enjoyed the action, the graphics and the pace of it to name but a few, but what put me off it was a lack of 'fun' I guess. I miss the banter and larking about that was all part and parcel of BF1942. I also found that you couldn't rely on backup so much as some people seemed intent on leveling up, medals and getting awards rarther than the tactical side of it as a team (not that you get so much in BF1942 I'll add).
Well I jumped ship back to BF1942 in the new year and have what I had been craving - fun. I setup my BF1942 dedicated server, open it up a few nights a week and may well get Desert Combat going as well if there's any interest left!

i agree, it started to feel like a real chore to go on the game as it just felt like i was earning points instead of actually playing for enjoyment and having a decent time. this will probably be addressed with the booster packs, as i bought special forces, it got me back into the whole thing for a while, but i rarely play that now and it made me go back to bf2 vanilla funnily enough.
the timing of the booster pack is a decent one imho though, but for new players, which i suppose this OP is, you cant beat it.
everyone MUST experience a decent amount of time with bf2
:D
