Best way of getting around london ?

im taking the mrs for a weekend away in february

im booking a hotel and theatre tickets, and plan on doing a bit of walking around and sight seeing etc..

whats the best way to pay for underground / bus fares etc.. ?

ive done some reading and it seems to be the Oyster cards, but i wanted to check you can buy them there and then, you dont have to send off for one or whatever

and crucially, are there any better ways ?

I just get a weekend tube/bus ticket from a tube station. Can be used on any tube/bus in what ever zone you decide on.

how much for a ticket for unlimited transport on tube / bus on weekends ?

so is oyster £3 for unlimited travel then ? or does it just charge you like £1 per journey and you top it up with £3 ?

If you're coming from Dover, the M25 westbound, then M1 northbound.
