best way of managing an ipod?

Hi

I getting an ipod nano, and just wondering what the best why of adding music to the unit as I have few macs and windows based machines, which all have different music on them (depending on my mood).

I reliease with itunes it will sync the itunes library with the ipod and delete any songs from the ipod thats not on the computer and vice vesa. Is there a way of stopping this?

Ideally what I want is to just be able to use it as a hdd and drag a drop different music files from all the machines, is this possible?

Yeah you turn it off on the options.
