Any way of doing this other than reinstalling from the disks and then copying the old World of Warcraft folder via a couple of DVDs (I checked last night - it's 10Gb  )

Think I'm being stupid here, there must be a quicker way.

you can just copy all the game files on a big memory stick or transfer the files over a network and it does work. Have done it a few times. You shouldn't need to reinstall at all.

Assuming the 10GB is the map data that gets downloaded as you run around the different areas then you can either just reinstall the game from disks and just copy the patches over then let it download it all again or just borrow a mates external harddrive if you know someone with one.

If it's anything like GW all the data was in one file (about 1GB for me) the game executable was only around 1mb. You could just copy the executable and it would download everything it needed again but it's much quicker just to copy the data with it.

Wow doesn't work like that. You to to have it all before you can start playing. You can now download it of the WoW site but some external drive the best option. I had abit of trouble copy it via DvDs. One file blew some file size limit.

Then just .zip or .rar it into chunks. If you choose storage method rather than high compression it won't take long.

leave patching going overnight I guess if you haven't got a big enough memory stick or a network setup

Actually, when I tried the WoW trial, it was just a small install, and it downloaded the files as needed. I played up to Lv20 as a dwarf, and I think my game folder is less than 1Gb.

Copy using using 120kb sided sided 5.25" floppies.

pfft!

He should open a hex editor on both machines, and write out the text from one to the other!

seriously though.. just chuck the hardrive in the new PC, and copy across @~70MB/s rather than all this burning/downloading malarky?

New PC is a laptop, so can't do that. My PC has really bad network problems too hence not wanting to do the transfer over the LAN.

Cheers for all the replies. I've RAR'd up my WoW directory and will copy them across tonight probably.
