Best way to add music to Desire?

Sorry! I did warn you there would be some questions!!

Shall I shove it in my PC, tell the Desire to connect in disk mode and then add it to the "Media" > "Audio" folder?

I can't get that to install in Win7, it just says download failed.

I connect via Disk Mode and use Media Player to sync the stuff over.

If I can't be bothered getting off the sofa, I'll use Estrongs File Explorer and copy the folder over the network. I use X:\Music as the directory of choice.

It's /sdcard/mp3 for me but otherwise exactly the same as you, USB > Disk Drive mode or wifi and es file explorer. Is there a way to make this copy even when it goes to sleep? it seems to pause the transfer when the screen goes off, which when copying a few albums is annoying.

Not ideal for all situations but you could always set it so it doesn't sleep when plugged in via USB.

I can't get it to log onto my PC using EStrongs, do I have to share a folder or something ?.

I dunno about that, but the latest astro has an optional SMB plugin download on the market too. You might try that as well.

I'm a little confused by which folder I should be placing music in.
If I connect my Desire via USB cable and get it to mount as a HD - it shows the following folders:

.bookmark_thumb1
.footprints
.htcnews
backup
DCIM
LOST.DIR
rssreader

Now inside the DCIM folder is an empty folder called:

100Media

Is this where the music should go?
Or should there be a root level folder called "Media"?

Cna I simply create a top-level folder called media and then inside that Audio?

I don't see why not, I just dropped an album into that directory to test it, not done any more than that.
