Best way to apply MX-2

Guys, what's the recommended way to apply Arctic Cooling MX-2 to a Q6600?

I see from the instructions on their site, they recommend a blob in the middle, then twist the heatsink, but is that really the best way?

I would have thought some thinly and evenly spread would be much better?

EDIT - what was I thinking of putting this in this section? Mods, can you move to the overclocking and cooling section please?

Thanks guys, seems like there is quite a difference of opinion. Might try my initial thought which was to spread it out, and see how it goes. I plan to test it all on the bench before installing in the case so shouldn't be too much hassle if I need to redo it.

forget the blobs whack some on and spread very thin layer all over the top of the cpu with a card with obviously abit less around the edges and maybe a tad more right at the middle

way i see it is you see say a stock graphics card cooler and you remove it you see the old gunk (probably placed as 1blob) its squashed but didnt cover the whole surface. now if you make full/maximum contact with the gunk it should give you better temps then before.. hense spreading thin layer right across the cpu for the largest surface area touching.

with a good cooler id expect around 25c

Thanks again guys, I just spread it out fairly thinly and evenly with an old credit card as I have done in the past with AS. Seems to be working okay, but not got an OS installed yet, so won't know for sure until I do and can run some tests.
