Best way to break in a Smartphone Battery

What's the best way to break in a smartphone battery. I was in a store the other day and the guy told me a method of ensuring you battery reaches its optimum by running it flat for the first seven days or something?

No just use it normally as you would - just run it low/flat once a month - then do a full charge.

If it's an android, get an app called current widget.

This widget displays the current going through the battery. Use it when charging, your phone is fully charged when it reads 0ma. Phones tend to claim to be fully charged before they actually are.
