Only thing I've ever used is my fingernail, gently applied against the offending dirt, or a tissue, but I don't think you're supposed to use them really. But my laptop was old, and it was fine!
At work I use screenclean on Dell TFTs as we had loads left from when we had CRTs.
They seem to work well with a lint free cloth. At home I use kitchen roll (dry) although its only for dusting down.
Ive got a solution spray bottle which has "Mr PC Clean" on it lol, just spray it on and wipe with a cd/optical cleaning cloth (same cloth you get with glasses). Used it on multiple monitors with no ill effects what so ever.
