Best way to clean?

Hi all,

I have purchased some Artic Silver 5 compound and I would like to clean the standard stuff off that came with my heat sink!!

Whats the best way? Spirits or just a dry clothe?

Then do I just put a blob on the centre of the CPU and place fan back!!

Edit: my fan is a - Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower (Socket 939/754/478/775) CPU Cooler (HS-015-ZA) from OcUK

Meths or cpu cleaner to remove residue or use vodka like me.
Smallish blob reseat and twist slightly before securing.

Or use some cotton wool!!

Put a grain of rice sized glop of AS and use something thats lint free (like a plastic glove) to spread the AS evenly across the processor.
