My computer was a monster when i first installed windows Xp and after brutally raping the hdd i have 150gb+ and i have defragged but it seems sluggish, its telling me i need another defrag but i want some more options on.
What program should i use to defrag (windows doesnt seem well)
Do i need to delete more files for faster access on my HD?
Should i get a program cleaner, registry mechanic that claim to speed up systems?

I dont really abuse my system installing/uninstalling i literally have 30games+ and tons of movies/tv episodes i'd like to keep but i dislike the 3 second loading times, othertimes it flies and then sometimes like to hang for a few seconds.

I'm running anti-virus (avast) and dont think i have spyware or viruses

I use the excellent O&O Defrag.

Get & run CCleaner. Good free program.

Also, you partitioned the HD? Recommend keeping music & videos separately on their own partition ;)

I use Auslogics BoostSpeed, but many recommend CCleaner too.

Personally, I would reinstall windows in this situation though.

the thing about re-installnig windows is that all the stuff thats on my pc is stuff thats going to be put back on.
Literally the only programs i have are microsoft word, dreamweaver, photoshop, msn, xfire
All the programs are essential and the games are what i play. I would just end up putting the stuff i already have on.

Thnx i will try the above, i dont have any partitions i thought about using my raptor but then again its only 36gb and i dont have raid to use my other one and i cba to format

You could try UltimateDefrag Freeware Edition, and use it to shift your archived stuff, movies, mp3's etc to the inner tracks of the drive leaving system files and executables on the outer tracks. Ultimatedefrag is very versatile in that it lets you choose where you want to put stuff. This would make windows itself feel snappier.

I have Windows installed on a 36GB Raptor along with a few essential programs [Opera, Comodo Firewall, AV etc] and a 500GB drive for everything else. I haven't reinstalled XP for about 4 years and it's still fast.

these are what i use

i wouldn't dabble with any 'optimizers'

tbh you should always be ready for a format, with backups at hand.

-what happens if your drive dies today?
a. restore backup to spare drive, then copy backed up files/documents back to the spare drive
b. cry

CCleaner is a must. And I would say Defraggler or some other defragger. Also I'd suggest some anti-spyware progs to stop nasties getting onto your PC and slowing it down. :)
