I'm upgrading my son's storage drive from an ancient 2tb Samsung HDD to a 2tb SSD, he's got games installed on there, what's the easiest way to clone the drive so the game installations will still be recognised by Windows? Thanks.

Macrium, either straight clone or image backup and restore.

But if you want to be sure partitions align properly for SSD, then a file and folder backup in Macrium of the whole drive, then format the SSD in windows, and then restore the backup to the newly formatted partition.

That's perfect, thank you.

Samsung has a free clone tool if your using one of their ssd's as do many other makes
rs, I have Macrium but i have never used it to clone a disc I have used Avast in the past as well as the Samsung app

You can't go wrong with the free version of macrium, it's super easy to use, really good UI.

The only reason you'd need to look any further is if you want to do fancy stuff like increment backups and stuff like that, so you'd have to pay for the pro version.
