Best way to convert MPEG to a Lossless AVI

Hey,

Ok, so I spent 3h 40m converting my sister's wedding VHS using pinnacle dazzle, however the damned MPEG it created wont load in Premiere Pro CS3.

What is the quickest way of converting it to AVI, and what is the best codec (minimal loss or lossless) to use that will work with Premiere (huffyuv?) ?

If you change the actual file extension from mpg to avi sometimes that works without having to re-encode anything as the avi is just a container file.

failing that, opening with virtualdub (or virtualdubmod) then saving as uncompressed avi

that was one of the first things i tried

, it gave an error when i tried loading the MPEG in virtualdub.

anyway all is working, now happily editing in Premiere
